Vietnam School of Astrophysics

Workshop on Astrophysics and Cosmology

August 4 - 10, 2013, Quy Nhon University, Quy Nhon, Vietnam

Overview

Founded in 1993 by Jean Tran Thanh Van, the association Rencontres du Vietnam, a non-profit organization and an official partner of UNESCO, has as its objective the promotion of international exchanges between Vietnam and the international community, particularly in the areas of science and education. It also aims at the encouragement and integration of Vietnamese scientists into the international scientific community and at supporting the role of education and science by encouraging scientific awareness and stimulating passion for science in the younger generation. The Rencontres du Vietnam lies within the scope of two series of scientific meetings created by Jean Tran Thanh Van : the Rencontres de Moriond in 1966 and the Rencontres de Blois in 1989.

The creation of the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science Education (ICISE) in the city of Quy Nhon (Central Vietnam) has the ambitious objective to focus on developing Science and Education by fostering exchanges between Asia-Pacific scientists and colleagues from other parts of the world.

IXth Rencontres du Vietnam

“1st Vietnam School of Astrophysics”

August 4-10, 2013, Quy Nhon, Vietnam

As a continuation of the success of the 1st workshop in 2011, the 2nd Vietnam Workshop on Astrophysics and Cosmology will be held from 04th to 10th August, 2013 at Quy Nhon University. The aims of the workshop are: (i) to provide a forum for international and Vietnamese astrophysicists to discuss their research and (ii) to introduce current research topics in astrophysics and cosmology to undergraduate and graduate students in Vietnam. The school is supported by Rencontres du Vietnam. The workshop covers contemporary research topics in astrophysics and cosmology, including:

  • Star: Massive Star Formation, Supernovae, AGB Stars, Brown Dwarfs.
  • Planet: Planet Formation, Planetary Systems, Exo-planets.
  • Galaxy: Matter cycle in our galaxy, Sub-millimetre star forming galaxies.
  • Cosmology: Gravitational Lensing, Observational Cosmology, Intensity Mapping.
  • CMB Radiations: Physics and Observations.
  • Cosmic Rays: Introduction.
  • Dark Matter: Decaying Dark Matter, Bulk Viscosity and Cosmic Acceleration.
  • Picosatellites: Scientific CubeSat.
  • Some limited accommodation and local travel funds may be available for young scientists from Vietnam and Asian developing countries.
