Overview

Two-dimensional materials and van der Waals heterostructures have become a major focus of research in the global scientific community, spanning both fundamental and applied research. Studies on these materials have revealed their unique and distinct physical properties compared to other known material classes. Research in this area not only contributes to new physical knowledge but also unveils potential applications in advanced technologies.

For instance, understanding the physics of electrons in graphene—a prototypical two-dimensional material—requires the application of concepts and methods not only from condensed matter physics but also from other fields such as particle physics and relativistic physics. The interdisciplinary insights gained from studying this special class of materials serve as a foundation for future advancements, including the design of novel devices based on new physical mechanisms. To achieve groundbreaking discoveries, it is essential to develop—and even invent—effective research approaches and methodologies to address fundamental knowledge gaps and technical challenges.

With the goal of equipping students and young researchers from Vietnam and several Southeast Asian countries with advanced knowledge and skills to work in this new direction of condensed matter physics, the Rencontres du Vietnam association is organizing the 25th Vietnam School of Physics with the theme:

"Two-Dimensional Materials and van der Waals Heterostructures: New Physical Discoveries and Advanced Research Methods."

ICISE

The conference will be organized at the ICISE conference center by Rencontres du Vietnam, a scientific non-profit organization. The ICISE conference center is located at a beautiful beach in Vietnam, thus allowing participants also to enjoy the nature, culture while having rich scientific discussion. Information can be found here: https://icisequynhon.com.

The ICISE conference center has been founded in 2013, together with the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education, in the city of Quy Nhon (Central Vietnam) by Rencontres du Vietnam with the ambitious objective to focus on developing science and education, helping young Asian students and scientists to meet with the international science community, bringing the opportunity to accelerate their knowledge by attending lectures and sharing ideas with overseas high-level counterparts.
