3rd Biology Conference 2020

December 11 - 13, 2020, ICISE, Quy Nhon, Vietnam

Overview

Founded in 1993 by Jean Tran Thanh Van, the association Rencontres du Vietnam, a non-profit organization and an official partner of UNESCO, has as its objective the promotion of international exchanges between Vietnam and the international community, particularly in the areas of science and education. It also aims at the encouragement and integration of Vietnamese scientists into the international scientific community and at supporting the role of education and science by encouraging scientific awareness and stimulating passion for science in the younger generation. The Rencontres du Vietnam lies within the scope of two series of scientific meetings created by Jean Tran Thanh Van : the Rencontres de Moriond in 1966 and the Rencontres de Blois in 1989.

The creation of the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science Education (ICISE) in the city of Quy Nhon (Central Vietnam) has the ambitious objective to focus on developing Science and Education by fostering exchanges between Asia-Pacific scientists and colleagues from other parts of the world.

“3rd Biology Conference 2020”

December 11 - 13, 2020, Quy Nhon, Vietnam

-Preface-

The African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” is correct in most scenarios. However, in science, it is especially preferred the second half. Undeniably, no one can do science alone. You need to join a network of scientists, firstly to share your interests in order to meet that from the others for potential collaboration. Nowadays, the scientists are especially orienting to multidisciplinary approaches. Therefore, a scientific network is critical to initiate in purpose to exchange expertise and to build collaborations across the communities of researchers. Moreover, in Vietnam, particularly the early-career scientists lack scientific connections and conferences to build-up collaboration and to catch up with state-of-the-art technologies and advanced discoveries. With the aim to promote active and professional communication among biological researchers, we successfully organized the first conference for thirty fellows at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) with generous support from the Scientific Association Rencontres du Vietnam (RDV) in December 2017. The participants, mostly coming from the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (also called Vietnam-France University, USTH), VAST, and other universities, highly appreciated this meeting, and one of the new collaborations among these young researchers has recently turned into a prestigious international publication. “The first Rencontres de Quy Nhon” was named to this meaningful scientific event.

To continue this great activity and to promote more interaction among researchers and also institutions across Vietnam, the Second Rencontres de Quy Nhon - Biology Conference with the topic “Research Orientation and Collaborations for Scientists in Life Sciences in Vietnam” was organized at a larger scale in December 2019 at ICISE, Quy Nhon. During this two-day conference, 132 scientists from more than 40 research and academic institutions have met and discussed in a plenary and two parallel sessions with 30 oral and 70 poster presentaions showing different research topics in the life science domain.

This year, the Third Rencontres de Quy Nhon - Biology Conference 2020 is held at the same place, ICISE Quy Nhon, from December 11 – 13, 2020. The conference is continuously supported by RDV, ICISE, and USTH through the Organization Committee – Life Science Links. This annual scientific event belongs to the series of scientific activities of the 16th Rencontres du Vietnam. During this meeting, about 290 participants, more than the double estimated number will discuss in three parts of plenary sessions and three parallel sessions with 16 invited talks of senior scientists, 60 oral and 120 poster presentations from delegates. The highlight of this year’s event is the formation of the Scientific Advisory Committee including 11 Professors– prestigious senior scientists from different research and academic institutions across Vietnam.

The Organizing Committee would like to acknowledge Prof. Jean Tran Thanh Van – President of RDV, Director of ICISE Quy Nhon, Prof. Le Kim Ngoc (RDV), and the Rector Board of USTH for their bighearted financial support. We are truly grateful to the scientific companies for their partnership and generous supports. The special thanks are especially dedicated to ICISE, USTH, RDV, National University of Singapore, Nong Lam University - HCM, Hanoi University of Science -VNU, International University-VNU HCM, Ton Duc Thang University, Tra Vinh University, Tien Giang University, University de Tours for their great supports.

Last but not least, we would like to thank to all participants, coming from fifty-four research and academic institutions for your participation. We hope, together, we are able to share and learn from each other and this conference may act as a forum for discussions and collaborations in life science field today and in the future. Please, let’s create and enjoy a truly scientific atmosphere together at the Biology Conference, ICISE 2020!
