Overview
Founded in 1993 by Jean Tran Thanh Van, the association Rencontres du Vietnam, a non-profit organization and an official partner of UNESCO, has as its objective the promotion of international exchanges between Vietnam and the international community, particularly in the areas of science and education. It also aims at the encouragement and integration of Vietnamese scientists into the international scientific community and at supporting the role of education and science by encouraging scientific awareness and stimulating passion for science in the younger generation. The Rencontres du Vietnam lies within the scope of two series of scientific meetings created by Jean Tran Thanh Van : the Rencontres de Moriond in 1966 and the Rencontres de Blois in 1989.
The creation of the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) in the city of Quy Nhon (Central Vietnam) has the ambitious objective to focus on developing Science and Education by fostering exchanges between Asia-Pacific scientists and colleagues from other parts of the world.
XXIIIrd Rencontres du Vietnam
International Conference on Advanced Microscopy for Life Sciences and Materials
(ICAM2027)
March 15-18, 2027 at ICISE, Quy Nhon, Vietnam
The Conference will bring together leading scientists, early-career researchers, students, and technology developers to explore how the next generation of microscopy can reveal the structure, dynamics, mechanisms, and functions of matter from molecules and cells to advanced materials and beyond.
Microscopy is entering a new era. Modern instruments no longer simply produce images; they increasingly enable us to measure molecular interactions, visualize dynamic processes, infer structures, and connect observations across spatial and temporal scales. Advances in electron microscopy, AFM and HS-AFM, SICM, super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, optical manipulation, cryogenic and correlative methods, together with AI-driven image analysis, are transforming how we investigate complex biological and material systems.
A particularly exciting frontier is the integration of advanced microscopy with computation and artificial intelligence. Cryo-EM can be combined with AI-based structural prediction and molecular docking; HS-AFM can be integrated with molecular dynamics and flexible fitting to infer dynamic structures; and emerging digital-twin approaches offer new possibilities for connecting experimental observations with molecular-scale models. These developments are moving microscopy from visualization toward quantitative mechanistic understanding.
ICAM2027 will therefore focus not only on individual microscopy technologies, but also on their integration, complementarity, and translation into scientific discovery. The conference will address how multimodal and correlative microscopy can bridge scales, how AI can extract deeper information from complex datasets, and how experimental and computational approaches can work together to reveal structures and mechanisms that cannot be accessed by a single technique alone.
The conference will also place strong emphasis on education, hands-on training, technology dissemination, and capacity building. By connecting established international laboratories with young researchers and emerging microscopy communities in Vietnam, Southeast Asia and beyond, ICAM2027 aims to strengthen access to advanced technologies, encourage shared facilities and collaborative infrastructure, and establish sustainable regional networks in microscopy.
Vietnam's rapidly expanding investment in nano life sciences, biotechnology, biophysics, materials research, and advanced instrumentation provides a timely environment for such an initiative. ICAM2027 will serve as a platform to connect scientific expertise, technologies, people, and ideas, helping to accelerate the development of advanced microscopy research in Vietnam and across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
