ExploraScience

The success of the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) opened the way to the creation of ExploraScience, in accordance with the objectives of the Rencontres du Vietnam. These are: to bring science to a larger public, to develop a love of science among the younger generation, and to contribute to consolidate the bases for the future development of the sciences in Vietnam.

The conception of ExploraScience is a result of a close collaboration with scientists from scientific centres in Europe.

Located across from ICISE, ExploraScience is a 12,000 square-meter elliptical building designed by Jean-Francois Milou, the architect of the ICISE centre. It consists of a 90-seat planetarium and rooms for scientific exhibitions. These allow the younger generation to play with and explore the various scientific phenomena and the laws of Nature. A future Children’s City (Cité des Enfants) for children from one to five years old will be added to ExploraScience.

RELIGIOUS ARCHITECTURE

Thap Thap Pagoda (Pagoda of 10 Towers)

Located in Nhon Thanh Commune, An Nhon, 27km north-west of Quy Nhon, the pagoda was built by founder Nguyen Thieu of Lam Te sect in 1668 with materials such as red bricks taken from the ruins of 10 surrounding Cham towers. This made the name of Thap Thap Pagoda (or pagoda of 10 towers) and were given the name of “Tu Thap Thap Di Da” by Lord Nguyyen Phuc Chu. To date, after over 340 years of history on, Thap Thap Di Da has became a Buddhist architecture monument of great scale; it is also the proofs of the development of Buddhism in Đàng Trong. This is also the ancestral home of the Lâm Tế group.

Quy Nhon Church

Quy Nhon Church, also known as the sharp top church, ic located in the city center on Tran Hung Dao street (opposite to Le Thanh Ton to the sea). It is the cathedral of the Diocese of Quy Nhon built in 1938 in the French and European Gothic combined style with cruciform layout. This church can accommodate up to 1,500 people. Especially, the church has a 47.2 meter pinnacle soaring to the sky. This explains why local people often address it as pointy top church. Lang Song Church (Tuy Phuoc)

Lang Song Church was built in Gothic style the typical architectural style of Europeans in church and palace construction. This can be easily recognized as the main hall of the church is decorated with symmertrical frames, wind flower decorations, patterns and pointed archway typical of church architecture. At first glance, the facade of Lang Song Church is very similar to ancient Saint Paul Cathedral built by the Portuguese in Macao. While it is not as epic and massive as Saint Paul Cathedral, Lang Song church somehow still preserves its ancient architecture.
