BÌNH ĐỊNH — The International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) held a new physics class in Quy Nhơn City on Thursday.

The European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) runs the class for aspiring young physicists every two years, alternating between countries in Europe, Asia and the Pacific. This is the fourth time the class has been held and the first time it has happened in Việt Nam.

Held in the central province of Bình Định, the Europe-Asia-Pacific high-energy physics class offers young scientists a chance to study recent discoveries in particle physics. It is designed to encourage collaboration between the students.

CERN spokesperson Nich Ellies said the goal of the class was to bring scientific discoveries and knowledge of basic physics to more countries around the world.

Việt Nam was selected to host this year’s course because young Vietnamese scientists showed great enthusiasm for the programme, he said.

Nich said the country’s infrastructure and people had provided a wonderful platform for students to succeed in the class.

Trần Văn Ngọc is one of eight Vietnamese trainees in the class. He said the selection process was rigorous. Students need to have a good background of scientific training and experience.

Ngọc hopes to gain new skills from the class. He intends to join high-level physics experiments at famous research centres around the world.

The class, which runs until September 25, drew 117 young scientists from 31 countries. — VNS
