Dutch Nobel laureate in Physics visits Việt Nam

Professors Tran Thanh Van, Le Kim Ngoc awarded Friendship Order

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan presented prestigious Friendship Order to Vietnamese French Professors Le Kim Ngoc and Tran Thanh Van at a ceremony held in Hanoi on July 8 for their outstanding contribution the country’s scientific development and childcare in Vietnam. The two professors, Tran Thanh Van and his wife Le Kim Ngoc established an Association in France to help Vietnamese children in 1970. They have returned home to organize many exchanges between Vietnamese and foreign scientists since 1993.

Increased funding for Binh Dinh space science complex

HA NOI (VNS) — The prime minister has approved an increase in State funding for a space science complex in the central coastal province of Binh Dinh, to cost over VND171.1 billion (US$8.1 million). Of the total amount, VND160 billion ($7.6 million) will now be sourced from the State budget, which is VND60 billion ($2.85 million) higher than the original estimate.

Research centre opening a milestone

BINH DINH (VNS)— Government leaders, Nobel Prize winners, and leading international scientists yesterday attended the opening of a centre for interdisciplinary science and education in central Binh Dinh Province. The centre, which was initiated - and backed financially - by Prof. Tran Thanh Van, chairman of the Association Rencontres (meeting) du Vietnam, is expected to serve as the nation's biggest centre for top level scientific activities.

Nobel winners visit scientific symposium

BINH DINH (VNS)— Four American Nobel laureates arrived in central Binh Dinh Province yesterday to attend the 9th "Meeting Viet Nam" event – a scientific symposium which starts today. The illustrious foursome are Prof. George Smoot, Prof. David J. Gross, Prof. Jack Steinberger, and Prof. Sheldon Lee Glashow. They will join fellow Nobel winner Prof. Klaus von Klitzing, who arrived last Thursday, to deliver keynote speeches at the conference.
